The Hobbit

Published in 1937, The Hobbit has been delighting readers young and old for generations.

Its tale of a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, who is whisked off on an adventure with thirteen Dwarves and the Wizard Gandalf to recover treasure stolen by the dragon, Smaug, has become one of the most successful and beloved works of children's literature.

Now it is being transformed into a spectacular trilogy of films by Peter Jackson, director of the award-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy, and starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, is soon to blaze onto cinema screens but before it does you can read the whole story in this special pocket edition.
